Senior Engineer, High Voltage Project (High Voltage)

Location: US, Arlington, VA; projects are primarily located in the Eastern or Central United States. Travel and fieldwork comprise 25% of the role.

Salary: $113,000–$141,525 per year, plus potential annual bonus.

What you will do

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering, construction, and commissioning activities for solar, wind, and BESS high-voltage substations and transmission lines rated from 35kV to 500kV.
• Review substation EPC designs for compliance with interconnection agreements, reliability standards, industry practices, and project documentation.
• Review power-system studies, including load flows, short circuits, harmonics, TOV, insulation coordination, grounding, and arc-flash analysis.
• Coordinate with interconnection providers, electric utilities, ISO organizations, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
• Support commissioning by reviewing apparatus testing and coordinating testing with utilities and ISO organizations.
• Work with project management, development, interconnection, real estate, permitting, legal, finance, and construction teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience in physical or protection and control engineering.
• 2+ years of project engineering experience in a high-voltage role.
• Proficiency reading control schematics for high-voltage breakers, main power transformers, and related equipment.
• Knowledge of power-system modeling and renewable grid-integration requirements.
• Strong communication, technical leadership, organization, and prioritization skills.

Nice to have

• Project management experience with high-voltage EPC contractors.
• Professional Engineer licensure.
• Technical lead experience coordinating IFP and IFC engineering packages.
• Experience with ETAP, PLS-CADD, ASPEN, or relay system testing.
