Design Lead (AI)

Location: Remote; candidates based in San Francisco work in a hybrid role with occasional travel to the San Francisco co-working space for key meetings and team events.

Salary: $115,000–$235,000 USD annually, depending on geographical tier, skills, experience, and location.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a five-person Product Design team while supporting craft, critical thinking, strategic influence, and career development.
• Define and operationalize company-wide design competencies and quality standards.
• Deliver end-to-end product design work, including complex problems, exploratory concepts, quick wins, and team-unblocking initiatives.
• Partner with leadership to align design direction with product strategy and business goals.
• Build scalable design systems and advance an AI-friendly approach that enables prototypes using real components.
• Shape discovery, concept development, interaction design, prototyping, delivery, and customer experience practices across multiple products and surfaces.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product design experience and 2+ years of management experience.
• Experience growing, coaching, and supporting senior designers in developing strategic influence.
• Strong portfolio covering visual design, interaction design, systems thinking, product storytelling, and user-centered craft.
• Experience building and scaling design systems, using AI in design practice, and evaluating where AI-generated work is appropriate for production.
• Strong cross-functional communication skills, experience working with leadership, and the ability to clarify ambiguous problems into compelling product concepts.
• Experience with user research methods and leading design across multiple products or surfaces.

• Experience designing products that support meaningful work in the veterinary or related industries.
