TL;DR
Water Resource Engineer-In-Training (Hydrology/Hydraulics): Supporting hydraulic and hydrologic modelling, flood studies, watercourse crossing design, stormwater assessments, and river engineering projects with an accent on field investigations, technical reporting, and regulatory approvals. Focus on preparing engineering calculations and designs, conducting site and construction inspections, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, regulators, and contractors.
Location: Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta, Canada; field work and travel are required as projects demand
Salary: CAD 26.00–35.00 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and geographic location.

What you will do
- Support hydraulic and hydrologic modelling for flood studies, floodplain mapping, river engineering, watercourse crossings, stormwater, and water management projects.
- Assist with flood, erosion, scour, geomorphic, and other hydrotechnical assessments.
- Support the design and assessment of watercourse crossings, hydraulic structures, natural channels, stream restoration projects, and drainage systems.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and regulatory applications under experienced engineering guidance.
- Conduct field investigations, surveys, construction inspections, site assessments, and post-construction monitoring.
- Coordinate with engineers, scientists, GIS and drafting staff, clients, regulators, contractors, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering.
- 0–2 years of relevant water resources engineering experience; co-op, internship, field, and project experience are considered.
- Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA.
- Understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, open-channel flow, and stormwater or drainage systems.
- Willingness to undertake field work and travel, including work at active construction sites.
- Valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s licence.
