TL;DR
UI/UX Developer (Accessibility/Public-Sector Digital Services): Designing and implementing accessible, bilingual user experiences for high-volume federal digital services with an accent on human-centered research, complex public forms, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. What you will do
- Conduct user research, journey mapping, persona development, task analysis, and moderated usability testing.
- Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, high-fidelity designs, design systems, and component libraries in Figma or an equivalent tool.
- Implement responsive, mobile-first interfaces with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and CMS theme layers.
- Design complex multi-step forms with progressive disclosure, inline validation, save-and-resume functionality, and clear error recovery.
- Own accessibility from design through delivery, including keyboard navigation, focus management, semantic markup, ARIA, and validation across browsers, devices, and screen readers.
- Collaborate with developers, testers, and DOL Digital Transformation/SORT stakeholders to implement USWDS patterns and align with DOL.gov and federal digital-service standards.
Requirements
- 5+ years of combined UX design and front-end development experience for public-facing or enterprise web applications.
- Strong hands-on HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills, including Sass, Tailwind, or Bootstrap, with the ability to implement personal designs.
- Demonstrated WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508 accessible design and development experience.
- Experience with CMS theming, such as Drupal Twig or a comparable platform, and responsive design across assistive technologies.
- Experience implementing USWDS and applying federal digital-service design standards.
- Bilingual English/Spanish content and layout design experience is required. A bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Computer Science, or a related field and a portfolio are required.

- React or Vue experience for interactive components.
