Systems Engineer (Virtualization)

Location: Hybrid in Washington, D.C.; at least 2 office days per week required, with residence in an hirify.global-supported U.S. location.

Salary: $109,350–$133,650 USD per year, plus benefits.

What you will do

• Install, rack, cable, configure, and maintain server, storage, and network hardware in data center environments.
• Deploy and operate enterprise virtualized infrastructure using platforms such as VMware, Proxmox, HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, Nutanix, or Incus.
• Evaluate architectures, test system performance and availability, and support private cloud and capacity-planning initiatives.
• Implement system changes, analyze workflows, and improve operational processes and documentation.
• Align hosts, operating systems, storage, and network configurations with security policies.
• Participate in on-call support, communicate operational status, and respond to critical issues on a 24x7 basis as needed.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting servers and networks in a data center environment.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience planning, deploying, and managing enterprise virtualized cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with physical data center hardware, DNS, IPAM, DHCP, configuration management, automation workflows, and enterprise storage.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server 2022+, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, host and switch networking, VLANs, trunking, and NIC bonding.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, servers, storage, networks, and virtualization layers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with Unix/Linux networking, Cisco Catalyst or Nexus switches, Veeam, HPE ProLiant, or Dell PowerEdge hardware.
• Familiarity with Python, PowerShell, or JavaScript.
• Linux knowledge and certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft, or AWS.
