System Administrator (NASA)

Location: Mountain View, California; onsite 5 days per week, with core hours from 9:00 to 15:00

Salary: $120,000–$145,000 per year

What you will do

• Manage and secure IT systems, networks, servers, software, backups, and virtual machine environments supporting mission operations.
• Administer web servers, file servers, monitoring services, OpenStack infrastructure, and related IT equipment.
• Install upgrades, patches, and software; troubleshoot laboratory systems and engineering applications.
• Maintain configuration management and address cybersecurity risks and findings in accordance with NASA, federal, and Ames Research Center requirements.
• Maintain network records and coordinate planned maintenance, installations, and issue resolution with center-wide networking teams.
• Support hardware and software integration, laboratory expansions, mission-specific projects, cloud migration, and AI/ML automation investigations.

Requirements

• US citizenship and completion of a federal background investigation are required.
• 3–5 years of experience as a systems administrator.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a relevant STEM field; equivalent experience may replace the degree requirement.
• Red Hat, Ubuntu, Windows Server, and Windows client administration experience.
• Familiarity with OpenStack, VMware, SAN management, shell, Perl, or Python scripting, and DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, and SNMP protocols.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements, NIST 800-53, RSA Archer, and software including C++, Java, Microsoft Office, Adobe, Visio, Teams, and Outlook.

Nice to have

• Linux certifications such as RHCT, RHCE, or LPIC, or certifications including MCSE, Security+, SysAdmin, or Linux+.
• Atlassian Suite, Confluence, JIRA, Windchill, or Satellite Toolkit experience.
• Experience with NASA Procedural Requirements, mission control, cloud migration, or AI/ML automation.
