TL;DR
Advanced ASIC FPGA Engineer (ASIC/FPGA): Designing and deploying secure, mission-critical system solutions with an accent on FPGA architecture, RTL development, simulation, verification, and hardware design analysis. Focus on evaluating synthesis and place-and-route flows, solving complex technical problems, and developing secure embedded systems for defense programs.

Location: Preferred work location is Idaho Scientific headquarters in Boise, Idaho, or Salt Lake City, Utah; U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: USD $122,411–$133,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design and deploy secure ASIC/FPGA system solutions for mission-critical products.
  • Define device architectures, module interfaces, simulation approaches, and detailed designs.
  • Create test and simulation plans, develop test benches, and verify functional results.
  • Evaluate FPGA development flows including synthesis, place and route, timing, power, and resource utilization.
  • Analyze customer specifications, vendor capabilities, device libraries, and simulation tools to recommend suitable technologies.
  • Produce engineering documentation and improve ASIC/FPGA development processes across major programs.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance and meet U.S. Government eligibility requirements.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong FPGA RTL development experience with VHDL or Verilog, including test bench simulation.
  • Fluent embedded C or C++ programming skills and strong knowledge of computer architecture.
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado and/or Altera Quartus, along with strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Active U.S. security clearance.
  • Applied cryptography and cybersecurity experience in operational technology or embedded systems.
  • Hardware and software reverse engineering experience and knowledge of secure boot.
  • Experience with RISC-V or other CPU microarchitectures, PCI Express, or DDR controllers.
