TL;DR
ASIC/FPGA Engineer (VHDL/Verilog): Designing, simulating, verifying, and documenting secure FPGA and ASIC solutions for mission-critical defense products with an accent on RTL development, synthesis, timing, and resource optimization. Focus on building test benches, analyzing performance, developing secure embedded systems, and applying cybersecurity and AI to technical engineering workflows.

Location: Preferred work location is Idaho Scientific headquarters in Boise, Idaho, or Salt Lake City, Utah. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: USD $103,585–$110,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, simulate, verify, and document FPGA and ASIC solutions for secure, mission-critical products.
  • Create test and simulation plans, define module interfaces, and support system architecture and detailed design.
  • Execute FPGA development activities including high-level design, synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and power or resource utilization analysis.
  • Develop test benches, verify results, analyze performance, and document designs and engineering outcomes.
  • Produce technical engineering deliverables throughout the ASIC/FPGA development life cycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical issues, impacts, and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 6 months of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.
  • Proven FPGA RTL development experience with VHDL or Verilog.
  • Fluency in VHDL or Verilog and embedded C or C++.
  • Experience developing test bench simulations and using Xilinx Vivado and/or Altera Quartus.
  • Strong computer architecture, analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Active U.S. security clearance.
  • Knowledge of applied cryptography, cybersecurity for operational technology and embedded systems, secure boot, or hardware and software reverse engineering.
  • Experience with RISC-V or other CPU microarchitectures, PCI Express, or DDR controllers.
