Senior Build Reliability Engineer (Machining)

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Investigate and eliminate machining and hardware build defects through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop inspection requirements, acceptance criteria, quality control processes, and closeout inspections aligned with mission reliability requirements.
• Perform development testing and provide design-for-reliability guidance during design reviews and build planning.
• Improve MRP/ERP traceability, data collection, reliability metrics, and lean inspection and test processes.
• Maintain inspection plans, storage and handling procedures, process control plans, and technician certification programs.
• Work with manufacturing, production, technicians, and supply chain teams to improve vendor quality and complete hardware containments and corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in hardware manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability systems.
• Experience supporting production builds, integration, or testing of primary structures and complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis experience.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of GD&T.
• Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an export license under applicable U.S. export regulations, including ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• 7+ years of build reliability experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, aviation, robotics, or defense hardware.
• Practical experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality systems.
• Experience with FMEA, reliability growth, and Weibull analysis.
• Experience supporting rapid development or prototype-to-production transitions.
• Technical familiarity with machining programming, setups, tooling, machine types, equipment maintenance, and optimization.
