Salary: $170,000–$220,000 per year

What you will do
- Provide technical leadership and operational support for UPWT, including control systems engineering, facility troubleshooting, test-section systems, and daily operations.
- Lead modernization projects involving control-system replacement, safety-system upgrades, mechanical and electrical refurbishment, facility automation, and tunnel-performance improvements.
- Develop requirements, conduct verification and validation, remediate hazards, manage interfaces, and identify and mitigate risks.
- Perform detailed design, analysis, modeling, commissioning, and integrated systems testing across mechanical, structural, electrical, and controls domains.
- Prepare technical documentation, test procedures, project reports, white papers, and trade studies supporting engineering programs and funding justification.
Requirements
- 20+ years of relevant experience in controls engineering, wind-tunnel operations, instrumentation, complex facility management, or large-scale mechanical and electrical systems.
- Expertise in wind-tunnel control logic, including pressure control, isolation systems, HWSS, IGV control, and supervisory state-flow systems.
- BS or MS degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, MATRIXx/SystemBuild, Ovation, AutoCAD, and failure-analysis methodologies.
- Project engineering and project-management experience on multi-million-dollar government or industry engineering programs.
- Federal background check required. Strong communication, collaboration, stakeholder-management, and multidisciplinary leadership skills are required.
Nice to have
- Professional Engineering license in California or an equivalent jurisdiction.
- Prior NASA Ames wind-tunnel or aeronautics test-facility experience.
