FPGA Architecture Engineer (AI)

Location: San Jose, California, United States. The role requires satisfactory proof of the right to work in the United States.

Base pay: $201,600 annually, with potential variable or incentive compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Evaluate and define next-generation FPGA fabric architectures.
• Apply AI-accelerated methods to FPGA architectural exploration and optimization.
• Build and use FPGA architectural models for research and evaluation.
• Collaborate with software CAD development and IC hardware design teams.
• Balance software quality of results with hardware power, performance, and area objectives.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Typically 10 years of relevant experience; candidates with strong relevant accomplishments and fewer years may also be considered.
• Experience in FPGA architecture, FPGA CAD, or ASIC/chip design, with the ability to reason about architectural tradeoffs.
• Understanding of digital design and the relationship between architecture, implementation, power, performance, and area.
• Programming and modeling skills for architectural research and analysis, including Python; familiarity with Verilog or VHDL.
• Clear technical communication, initiative, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with commercial FPGA architectures and CAD tools.
• Experience connecting architectural decisions to hardware implementation, CAD behavior, or customer workloads.
• FPGA architecture research supported by models, experiments, or publications.
• Experience applying AI, machine learning, or generative AI tools to engineering problems.
