TL;DR
AFE Test & Integration Engineer (Analog Front End/ASIC): Building bench setups and protocols to independently validate a fabricated neural-recording ASIC's analog front end, with an accent on first-silicon bring-up, electrical characterization, and signal-chain integration. Focus on measuring noise, CMRR, power consumption, crosstalk, and input-referred noise across the channel array while producing verification-ready test documentation.

Location: San Diego, California, US

Salary: $100,000–$135,000 per year, plus stock option or restricted stock unit grants.

Company

Develops a high-channel-count neural-recording ASIC for an implantable neural interface program.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain fixtures and instrumentation for first-silicon bring-up and analog front-end characterization.
  • Co-develop bench test plans, protocols, and sample-size rationale with the ASIC Design & Verification Engineer.
  • Measure noise floor, CMRR, power consumption, channel-to-channel crosstalk, and input-referred noise per channel and across the array.
  • Support integration testing of the ASIC with the electrode array and lead in the full signal chain.
  • Produce characterization and integration test reports for verification and design history records.
  • Grow into ownership of the AFE characterization test suite through qualification.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field.
  • Academic, thesis, research, or internship experience with analog front-end or biopotential amplifier design, including low-noise or chopper-stabilized instrumentation amplifiers, SAR converters, or delta-sigma converters.
  • Knowledge of electrode-tissue interfaces, electrode-electrolyte impedance, EIS, or Randles-cell-style modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, source-measure units, signal generators, and basic noise measurement.
  • Working knowledge of Python or MATLAB for data analysis and bench-measurement automation.
  • Onsite work in San Diego, California, US.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on bench and systems experience in an implantable neural interface program.
  • Day-to-day mentoring from a senior ASIC design lead.
  • Medical-device and program-specific context provided on the job.
  • Stock option or restricted stock unit grants.
