Summer 2027 Software Engineering Internship/Co-op (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States; full-time onsite for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning in May or June 2027

Salary: $30–$40 USD per hour, determined by academic level

Develops AI systems designed to understand the universe and support scientific discovery, including the Grok frontier AI model and Starmind satellite infrastructure for AI computing.

What you will do

• Work with a mentor and engineering colleagues on software projects with significant impact.
• Apply programming knowledge to AI and related engineering initiatives.
• Develop, debug, optimize, and test software for real-world applications.
• Create software documentation, system diagrams, and software requirements.
• Contribute directly in a hands-on, flat-structure engineering environment.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a bachelor's degree or graduate program.
• At least 3 months of software programming or development experience.
• Software coding experience in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Ability to work full time onsite for at least 12 consecutive weeks beginning in May or June 2027.
• Strong communication, prioritization, initiative, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• GPA of 3.5 or above.
• At least 6 months of experience developing and deploying software used in real-world applications or projects.
• Knowledge of computer architecture and networks.
• Experience with debugging, performance optimization, unit testing, software documentation, and system diagrams.
