Senior Software Engineer (Java/AWS)

Location: Must be based in Chicago, IL; relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $112,710–$183,140 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain backend RESTful APIs and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS.
• Define API contracts, payload schemas, and OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.
• Build secure integrations using OAuth 2.0, JWT, and enterprise authentication and authorization services.
• Collaborate with product owners, UI teams, architects, and partner engineering teams.
• Lead feature implementation, mentor engineers, and contribute to code reviews and engineering standards.
• Support application performance, CI/CD automation, observability, deployments, monitoring, and production operations.

Requirements

• Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices with Java 21+, Spring Boot, API gateways, and cloud platforms.
• Experience with secure service integrations using OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies such as Kafka, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, AWS Kinesis, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, automated testing, performance testing, and CI/CD tools.
• Ability to work effectively with engineering, product, and business stakeholders in Agile/Scrum teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and databases such as Aurora, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
