Senior Software Engineer (Java Backend)

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States; the role is associated with in-person collaboration at Walmart campuses.

Salary: $108,000–$216,000 per year, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Develop large-scale Java backend applications and microservices using Spring Boot and Kafka.
• Design, implement, and optimize scalable data-processing systems and mobile-related backend services.
• Debug production issues and improve application performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Write maintainable, modular, and testable code with unit, functional, and integration tests.
• Document technical designs, implementations, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams while contributing to technical project planning and standards.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building Java-based backend systems and cloud solutions.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, microservices, RESTful services, concurrency, caching, and ORM tools.
• Experience delivering highly scalable, data-intensive applications and designing distributed systems.
• Knowledge of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, system design, and problem solving.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and development environments including Git, Maven, and Jenkins.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 3 years of experience, or 5 years of software engineering experience.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in a relevant computer science or software engineering field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
