Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Liquid Cooling Systems)

Location: United States (Remote)

Salary: $137,040–$171,300 USD per year for the stated compensation range. Geographic pay tiers may range from $130,188 to $185,000 depending on location, experience, skills, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Own the mechanical cooling and fluid-distribution architecture for modular AI data center platforms, including pumps, piping, manifolds, CDUs, rack cooling systems, and heat-rejection equipment.
• Perform hydraulic design and analysis for water- and glycol-based systems, including pipe sizing, flow, pressure drop, pump head, balancing, redundancy, and failure conditions.
• Develop P&IDs, mechanical schematics, equipment and valve schedules, instrumentation requirements, design criteria, calculations, and technical standards.
• Define interfaces between factory-built modules and field infrastructure, including piping, manifolds, flexible connections, isolation valves, drains, vents, quick disconnects, and leak detection.
• Design for manufacturing, serviceability, transport, installation, testing, and phased expansion while incorporating feedback from manufacturing and field teams.
• Integrate controls and instrumentation and support factory acceptance, site acceptance, integrated systems testing, commissioning, startup, balancing, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• 7 or more years of experience designing mechanical cooling, hydraulic distribution, process cooling, or mission-critical infrastructure systems.
• Experience with data centers, semiconductor facilities, industrial process cooling, central utility plants, or comparable high-reliability environments.
• Strong knowledge of pipe sizing, pump selection, pressure-drop analysis, flow balancing, system volume, and hydraulic control.
• Experience owning P&IDs, mechanical calculations, equipment schedules, valve schedules, and instrumentation requirements.
• Practical knowledge of chilled-water, condenser-water, glycol, or process-fluid systems and experience designing for commissioning, maintenance, flushing, venting, draining, and service access.
• Ability to coordinate across engineering, manufacturing, controls, commissioning, field teams, OEMs, fabricators, and engineering partners with limited oversight.

Nice to have

• Experience with direct liquid cooling for AI or HPC systems, including CDUs, rack manifolds, cold plates, rear-door heat exchangers, or liquid-to-liquid heat exchangers.
• Experience with modular, prefabricated, skid-based, or containerized infrastructure.
• Experience with AFT Fathom, Pipe-Flo, CFD, thermal modeling, transient analysis, or comparable tools.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar design tools.
• Experience supporting FAT, SAT, IST, field commissioning, or holding a Professional Engineer license.
