Senior Underwriter - Innovation Economy (Life Sciences)

Location: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Manhattan, West Hartford, or Scottsdale, United States

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 per year, plus performance-based bonus

What you will do

• Own an individual traded underwriting portfolio, including premium growth, profitability, retention, new business production, and portfolio quality.
• Underwrite new and renewal business across Technology, Fintech, Health & Life Sciences, and Web3, including larger and more complex accounts.
• Evaluate exposures, structure coverage, establish pricing, negotiate terms, and apply underwriting authority and appetite guidelines.
• Develop broker and distribution-partner relationships, manage the pipeline, and identify attractive new business opportunities.
• Provide Life Sciences underwriting guidance on complex risks and share technical knowledge with the traded underwriting team.
• Collaborate with Underwriting, Product, Claims, Account Management, and other internal partners to support profitable growth.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, preferably including Life Sciences underwriting.
• Strong technical underwriting skills and experience making independent decisions on complex risks.
• Experience with Professional and Specialty lines and multiple Commercial P&C coverages.
• Experience underwriting Technology, Fintech, Life Sciences, Web3, or other emerging and high-growth businesses is strongly preferred.
• Experience managing an individual book of business with accountability for production, growth, profitability, and retention.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience, plus strong broker relationship, negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Significant experience underwriting biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, medical software, CROs, or related Life Sciences businesses.
• Experience with Management Liability, Cyber, Technology E&O, General Liability, Property, or Excess Liability.
• Experience with startups, venture-backed companies, and high-growth businesses.
• CPCU, RPLU, another relevant insurance designation, or an active Property & Casualty license.
