Director, Knowledge Management & Innovation (Transactional Practices)

Salary: $260,000–$390,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop and execute Knowledge Management and Innovation strategies for designated transactional business units.
• Lead and mentor Knowledge Lawyers, Innovation Managers, and Knowledge Analysts across multiple offices and geographic locations.
• Partner with attorneys, practice leaders, IT, Legal Operations, and Practice Management to align initiatives with client and business priorities.
• Drive knowledge sharing, process improvement, AI readiness, technology adoption, and organizational change.
• Oversee precedent libraries, model documents, playbooks, matter insights, practice data, dashboards, and operational reporting.
• Evaluate emerging legal technologies and scale successful pilots into broader operational capabilities.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and significant legal practice experience in a major law firm, corporate legal department, or government legal environment.
• Substantial experience in knowledge management, practice innovation, professional support, or comparable legal operations.
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
• Deep understanding of legal technology and AI, including generative AI, document automation, contract lifecycle management, knowledge management systems, and matter intelligence.
• Experience leading technology adoption, pilot programs, process improvement, and operational transformation in a partnership environment.
• Strong strategic, operational, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Legal practice experience in technology, life sciences, energy, financial services, real estate, construction, intellectual property, regulatory, or complex litigation.
• Leadership experience in an AmLaw 100 or similarly sophisticated legal environment.
• Experience supporting initiatives across multiple offices, jurisdictions, and geographic regions.
• Participation in legal knowledge management, legal technology, or innovation organizations and professional networks.
• Familiarity with law firm economics and metrics such as utilization, realization, leverage, and alternative fee arrangements.
