TL;DR
Technical Process Engineer (Manufacturing): Improving mill processes, product quality, process control, and production efficiency at an on-site specialty materials facility with an accent on process optimization, cost reduction, safety, and quality. Focus on planning production trials, evaluating equipment and process changes, analyzing production trends, and executing capital and non-capital improvement projects.

What you will do

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing production crews with a focus on safety, quality, and process performance.
  • Modify existing mill processes and develop new processes to improve product quality and profitability.
  • Plan and supervise in-mill production trials, document results, and analyze cause-and-effect relationships.
  • Evaluate major equipment and support the design and execution of equipment modifications and capital projects.
  • Analyze production trends using mill information systems and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop cost optimization and Lean improvement projects while coordinating with production, maintenance, engineering, suppliers, and other functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, paper science, or a related field; related process-oriented manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • Ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes involving chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with minimal supervision in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Must be able to work rotating weekends, typically approximately five weekends per year, including possible adjacent holidays.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, work in hot and humid facility areas, and climb stairs or ladders as needed.

Nice to have

  • 3–5 years of process engineering experience in paper mill, coating, saturating, or converting operations.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and customer interactions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Oracle, ABB, PARCview, QiSoft, Concur, Velocity, or SharePoint.
