TL;DR
Director, Human Resources - Manufacturing (Manufacturing): Leading the U.S. manufacturing HR strategy and multi-site HR organization across Apogee Architectural Metals with an accent on workforce planning, employee relations, labor relations, talent development, and compliance. Focus on building consistent HR practices across dispersed manufacturing operations, supporting union and non-union sites, and leading organizational change and operational improvement.

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin, United States; requires work in both office and manufacturing environments, with approximately 15–25% travel to U.S. manufacturing locations and corporate meetings.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute the U.S. manufacturing people strategy aligned with business priorities and long-term capability needs.
  • Lead, coach, and develop HR Business Partners and site HR teams across geographically dispersed manufacturing locations.
  • Advise senior operations leaders on workforce planning, organization effectiveness, talent development, culture, performance, and change leadership.
  • Partner with HR Centers of Excellence, Safety, Legal, Leave Management, and operations leaders to implement scalable and compliant HR programs.
  • Lead succession planning, talent reviews, leadership development, critical-role pipelines, and frontline leadership capability building.
  • Oversee employee relations, investigations, organizational changes, labor strategy, collective bargaining, grievances, arbitration, and continuous HR improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Ten or more years of progressive HR experience, including significant leadership responsibility in a multi-site manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience leading HR Business Partners and site HR teams across geographically dispersed operations.
  • Broad experience across employee relations, talent management, succession planning, organization design, workforce planning, compensation, change management, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of leave administration and the ADA interactive process, with the ability to manage complex employee matters with Safety, Legal, and operations leaders.
  • Experience with unionized manufacturing operations and labor relations is strongly preferred; willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% is required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience with collective bargaining, contract administration, grievances, arbitration, and positive labor-management relationships.
