What you will do

• Teach middle school history using primary and secondary sources, textual analysis, analytical writing, inquiry, argumentation, corroboration, and historiography.
• Facilitate student-led discussions, peer debate, and evidence-based interpretation of historical topics.
• Deliver an in-house curriculum covering the histories and contributions of Indigenous peoples, African Americans, women, and ancient cultures.
• Analyze student work and assessment data with the principal or instructional coach and differentiate instruction for diverse learners.
• Build an inclusive classroom culture, support students’ social-emotional development, and partner with families.
• Collaborate with grade-level teams and participate in professional development, mentorship, coaching, and weekly school-wide meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university before the start of employment.
• Academic background in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities.
• Demonstrated commitment to students’ social-emotional and academic development.
• Interest in supporting K-12 students in urban schools and communities; 1–2 years of experience is preferred.
• If the degree is not in education, enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintenance of a GPA of at least 2.5 are required during employment.
• New York State certification eligibility is required, and certification must be obtained within a reasonable period after starting employment.
