Laboratory Safety Manager

What you will do

• Oversee enterprise safety and emergency management policies across laboratory operations.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce laboratory safety policies, procedures, PPE protocols, and safety codes.
• Monitor chemical and biohazardous material use and disposal, including coordination with hazardous waste vendors.
• Manage incident reporting, accident investigations, corrective actions, safety audits, and laboratory audit readiness.
• Deliver new-hire, annual fire, emergency response, and ongoing laboratory safety training.
• Lead assigned staff and chair the safety committee while partnering with Quality, Management, and laboratory teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, environmental health, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific field.
• At least five years of experience in an EHS-related role is desired.
• Knowledge of CAP/CLIA, NYS, OSHA, FDA, DOT, and other state and federal safety regulations.
• Ability to work with chemicals, cleaning supplies, hand tools, and basic electrical systems using appropriate PPE.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift repeatedly for extended periods.
• Strong communication, project planning, independent work, multitasking, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience working in a CLIA/CAP laboratory.
• Prior supervisory experience.
