TL;DR
Training Officer, Cultural Orientation (Refugee Services): Designing and delivering cultural orientation training, technical assistance, curricula, and multimedia learning resources for refugee service providers in the United States with an accent on trauma-informed, client-centered, and strength-based approaches. Location: Remote within the United States; listed location is Iowa City, Iowa. Required domestic travel of up to 20%.

Salary: $80,000–$85,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design and deliver cultural orientation training for refugee service providers and cultural orientation staff.
  • Provide responsive, cross-disciplinary technical assistance tailored to organizational needs, learning styles, literacy levels, languages, and cultural contexts.
  • Develop curricula, toolkits, videos, podcasts, and other trauma-informed, client-centered, and strength-based learning resources.
  • Facilitate communities of practice and peer learning groups to support knowledge exchange and cross-training.
  • Contribute to annual training and technical assistance workplans, project plans, budgets, and delivery schedules.
  • Track training outputs and outcomes, analyze participant feedback, and contribute to monthly and semi-annual reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, international development, social work, public administration, cross-cultural studies, migration/refugee studies, social sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of direct service experience with refugees or other ORR-eligible populations.
  • Prior experience delivering cultural orientation to newcomers and providing training or technical assistance to refugee service providers.
  • Experience delivering client-centered, trauma-informed, and strength-based services and supporting newcomers’ access to financial, medical, social, vocational, and other resources.
  • Strong understanding of cultural orientation frameworks, refugee and newcomer integration principles, and adult learning principles.
  • Fluent written and spoken English required, along with strong communication, public speaking, organizational, project management, and technology skills.

Nice to have

  • Lived experience with forced displacement or a shared background with newcomer populations.
  • Experience managing external subject matter experts or consultants.
  • Experience with project monitoring and evaluation, data collection, management, and reporting.
  • Experience with evidence-based programming.
