Senior Database Reliability Engineer (AWS)

Location: Remote within the USA for candidates residing in CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, ME, MA, MD, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, OH, or WA. Hybrid work is available from physical offices in Austin, Texas, or Tampa, Florida. Onsite interviews may be required. hirify.global cannot hire for this role within the city limits of Chicago.

Salary: $160,000–$210,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey, Washington, or New York.

What you will do

• Own architectural and lifecycle decisions for the data domain, including technology selection, deprecation, capacity planning, and platform direction.
• Design, operate, and evolve database platforms across relational, NoSQL, caching, time-series, and data warehouse technologies.
• Partner with Architecture and Engineering on schema design, access patterns, scalability tradeoffs, and product decisions involving data.
• Maintain database performance, availability, disaster recovery, backups, retention, security controls, audit logs, and schema versioning.
• Automate provisioning, backup, lifecycle management, and database changes through CI/CD, while improving developer-facing tooling and environments.
• Lead migrations, upgrades, technology transitions, and documentation of architecture decisions, runbooks, and platform standards.

Requirements

• 8+ years of database engineering or administration experience, including 3+ years operating multiple database technologies in production.
• Experience influencing architecture or product decisions involving data, with deep expertise in at least one relational engine and working fluency in NoSQL and caching.
• Experience with time-series data stores and data warehouses such as Redshift, Snowflake, or BigQuery.
• Strong cloud-native experience, preferably AWS, including RDS/Aurora, managed NoSQL, IAM, encryption, and data-service networking.
• Proficiency in scripting, automation, infrastructure as code, troubleshooting with logs and metrics, and query analysis across varied storage engines.
• Must be located in an eligible USA state; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Fargate, or other containerized and orchestrated database deployments.
• Cross-cloud data platform experience with GCP or Azure.
• Experience with distributed systems, data partitioning, and internal developer tooling for data infrastructure.
• Previous experience as a data platform engineer or database reliability engineer.
