Lead Application Architect (Cloud-Native)

Location: Hybrid in Suitland, Maryland, with locations in McLean, Virginia and the Virginia, DC, Maryland Metro Area

Salary: $160,000–$225,000 annually, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead application architecture strategy, governance, standards, and reviews across enterprise modernization initiatives.
• Design scalable cloud-native architectures using open-source technologies, microservices, APIs, messaging, event streaming, and system-of-systems integrations.
• Guide the modernization of legacy and on-premises systems into distributed, event-driven platforms.
• Support AI/ML application architectures, including model integration, deployment, and operationalization.
• Align application and data architectures with governance, quality, lifecycle management, ETL, analytics, and real-time processing requirements.
• Coordinate architecture across contractors, engineering teams, security stakeholders, and delivery organizations while mentoring developers and architects.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance are required.
• 15+ years of experience in application architecture, software engineering, or enterprise modernization.
• Experience leading architecture for large-scale distributed systems and coordinating multi-team, multi-contractor delivery.
• Strong experience with cloud-native architectures, legacy modernization, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, messaging, and distributed integrations.
• Experience with AI/ML-enabled systems, large-scale data processing, ETL workflows, analytics, and dissemination systems.
• Knowledge of NIST, FedRAMP, FISMA, Zero Trust, MFA, secure SDLC, ATO processes, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.

Nice to have

• Certified Solutions Architect certification for AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Professional.
• CCSP or a similar security certification.
• DevOps or DevSecOps certifications.
• Experience with federal modernization programs, event streaming, real-time processing, or enterprise analytics platforms.
