Senior Outside Counsel Program Manager

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with attendance at the Berlin campus 2 days a week

What you will do

• Design and operate matter intake and scoping processes, ensuring each engagement has a defined scope, owner, and budget.
• Own the outside counsel budget, including forecasting, accruals, variance analysis, and reporting to Legal leadership and Finance.
• Build and govern the external law firm panel, Outside Counsel Guidelines, Billing Guidelines, and annual rate review process.
• Design alternative fee arrangements and structure matters for fixed-fee pricing.
• Lead the rollout, adoption, and integration of the outside counsel management program with ERP and source-to-pay systems.
• Run firm performance reviews, resolve billing disputes, and support supplier onboarding, third-party risk management, and enterprise savings reporting.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in outside counsel management, legal operations, law firm finance, or law firm business development.
• Expertise in panel governance, rate negotiation, RFP and RFI management, alternative fee structures, and billing guideline enforcement.
• Knowledge of law firm delivery models and economics, including the impact of AI on legal service delivery and pricing.
• Hands-on experience with outside counsel management or e-billing platforms, plus strong skills in budgeting, benchmarking, and financial modelling.
• Experience building programs from scratch in complex, multi-jurisdictional organizations and leading stakeholder change.
• Fluency in English is required; German is an advantage. Knowledge of procurement frameworks, SAP Ariba or similar source-to-pay suites, LEDES, and UTBMS or SALI codes is expected.
