Senior Substation Physical Engineer

Location: Fully remote within the United States; Nationwide Remote Office (US99)

Salary: $119,323–$202,850 per year

What you will do

• Lead and oversee physical design drawings for distribution substations from 12kV to 69kV, with possible involvement in transmission projects above 69kV.
• Prepare one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, sections, electrical details, grounding, conduit, control cubicle, cable tray, lighting, and lightning protection designs.
• Lead AC load, illumination, grounding, and lightning shielding studies and develop bills of materials.
• Coordinate with protection and controls, civil and structural, and drafting disciplines to deliver high-quality engineering packages.
• Support client meetings, technical discussions, project planning, site visits, constructability reviews, and vendor information integration.
• Apply utility standards, IEEE, NESC, and NEC requirements; maintain QA/QC processes and mentor junior engineers and designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably electrical engineering with a power focus.
• 8+ years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.
• 8+ years of experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and MicroStation, or similar design tools.
• Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
• Experience with substation design standards, utility specifications, grounding studies, CDEGS, and Agi32 illumination software.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, and mentor junior staff.

Nice to have

• Experience leading substation projects modeled in 3D with Autodesk Inventor.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
