Senior Staff Bioinformatics Scientist (AI-guided Protein Engineering)

What you will do

• Build reusable data foundations for protein engineering, including metadata standards, variant lineage, assay context, controls, replicates, uncertainty, and negative data.
• Develop computational workflows connecting sequence, structure, assay, and screening data to AI/ML models and enzyme design decisions.
• Benchmark internal, open-source, commercial, and emerging AI methods for protein and enzyme engineering.
• Create scripts, templates, dashboards, lightweight applications, and analysis pipelines for experimental and computational teams.
• Advance semi-closed-loop and closed-loop design-build-test-learn workflows that turn experimental results into design recommendations.
• Collaborate with experimental scientists, automation, informatics, software and data engineering, chemistry, biophysics, and platform teams.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in computational chemistry, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience leading computational biology, protein engineering, AI/ML, screening analytics, or scientific data infrastructure initiatives.
• Deep experience applying computational or data-driven methods to protein or enzyme engineering, directed evolution, assay analysis, or related biological design problems.
• Experience designing reproducible data structures or analytical systems for model training and cross-project learning, plus wet-lab experience with screening or biochemical assays.
• Programming experience in at least one major language, such as C/C++, Python, or R.
• Knowledge of protein sequence or structure modeling, protein-ligand interaction prediction, molecular simulations, AI/ML, statistics, and data analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience with protein language models, generative protein design, zero-shot variant scoring, supervised learning, uncertainty-aware learning, and multi-parameter optimization.
• Experience with Protein MPNN, RFdiffusion, Boltz, AlphaFold, molecular dynamics, docking, biophysical analysis, or Rosetta.
• Experience developing assay schemas, data standards, dashboards, AI agents, agentic workflows, or computational pipelines.
• Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, cloud or high-performance computing, GPU computing, Git, UNIX, and shell scripting.
• Knowledge of bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, biochemistry, enzymology, molecular biology, and next-generation sequencing.
