Mechanical Engineer, Optomechanical Systems

What you will do

• Design and integrate optomechanical mounts and assemblies for optics, light modulators, mirrors, dichroics, filters, and cameras.
• Own the mechanical architecture of custom modules, housings, enclosures, alignment fixtures, and laboratory instruments.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, allocate mechanical tolerances, and define datum schemes and reference faces from optical models through CAD and shop drawings.
• Design kinematic mounts, assembly fixtures, jigs, light-sealing features, cable management, and service access.
• Release fully toleranced drawings, STEP models, revision-controlled CAD, bills of materials, and manufacturing packages.
• Support prototyping, assembly, alignment, measurement, and iteration on the bench while coordinating with engineers, lab technicians, and equipment manufacturers.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 3+ years of demonstrated optomechanical design experience.
• Fluency with a parametric CAD package such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, NX, or similar, including assemblies, drawings, and GD&T.
• Working knowledge of tolerance stack-ups, datum schemes, fits, materials, finishes, DFM, and fabrication requirements.
• Experience with motorized stages, motion systems, enclosure and industrial design, and packaging for products.
• Comfort assembling, prototyping, measuring, and iterating alongside engineers and lab technicians.

Nice to have

• Background in laser systems, semiconductors, sensing, or precision-instrument hardware.
• Familiarity with thermal management and vibration isolation for sensitive optical instruments.
• Exposure to FEA for structural and thermal checks.
• Experience collaborating across optics, electronics, assembly, and system integration.
