Mechanical Engineer / Senior Mechanical Engineer, Opto-Mechanics

What you will do

• Design mirror mounts, lens and window mounts, optical benches, structural supports, and other opto-mechanical assemblies for deep-UV, high-energy laser systems.
• Develop requirements and trade studies with optical, controls, and systems engineers, documenting design decisions and interfaces.
• Perform hand calculations, static, modal, and thermal FEA, tolerance stack-ups, and optical sensitivity analysis.
• Create NX models, GD&T manufacturing drawings, drawing packages, and interface control documents.
• Specify materials and purchased components, work with suppliers, inspect hardware, and support manufacturing and engineering change processes.
• Assemble, align, test, integrate, and troubleshoot hardware in optics laboratories, cleanrooms, and on the laser system floor; senior engineers lead subsystems and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 4+ years of professional mechanical design experience with hardware designed, built, and put into use.
• Strong fundamentals in statics, strength of materials, stiffness and deflection, thermal expansion, materials selection, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably NX, and manufacturing drawings with GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with precision opto-mechanical hardware, FEA, tolerance analysis, machining or fabrication suppliers, and hands-on assembly and testing.
• Must work onsite in Denver, Colorado. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment are required.

Nice to have

• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
• STOP analysis and experience with Ansys, Abaqus, or Nastran.
• Cleanroom procedures, high-vacuum hardware, high-voltage environments, or thermal management of optical assemblies.
• Active mount pointing and alignment recovery, slow and fast steering mirrors, or high-energy deep-UV laser systems.
• Opto-mechanical experience with lasers, telescopes, lithography, or precision instruments.
