Hardware Systems Integration Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Watertown, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role requires frequent travel to supplier sites in China, approximately one-third to one-half of the time.

Salary: $150,000–$300,000 per year

What you will do

• Evaluate supplier hardware, including robot arms, actuators, sensors, and other components, against robot requirements.
• Integrate and test new hardware on robots, identify shortcomings, and drive issues through to resolution.
• Work directly with supplier engineers, including at supplier sites, to agree on required changes and maintain progress between visits.
• Communicate product requirements clearly to suppliers and explain the rationale behind them.
• Build small prototypes, conduct tests, take measurements, and bring findings back to the design team.
• Travel frequently to China and potentially grow into hiring or leading other integration engineers.

Requirements

• Experience developing hardware with suppliers or factories in China, taking a product from prototype toward production.
• Fluent Mandarin and English, including technical discussions and writing specifications in both languages.
• Hands-on ability to debug systems spanning mechanical, electrical, and firmware components.
• Comfort working in a laboratory, building test setups, taking measurements, and documenting results.
• Willingness to work on-site in Watertown and take long, frequent trips to China.

• Experience with robot arms, actuators, or motor drives.
