Data Center Network Physical Design Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, TX; New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; or Seattle, WA

Salary: $183,000–$218,000 base salary annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Own the end-to-end physical implementation of data center networks, including fiber plant architecture, transceiver planning, and structured cabling for hyperscale sites.
• Collaborate with CSA, MEP, and construction teams on power, cooling, pathways, cabinets, racks, and construction drawings using Bluebeam, ACC, and Procore.
• Translate logical data center network port maps across TOR, spine, super-spine, and DCI layers into physical cross-connect and patching schedules.
• Automate port-to-fiber mapping for sites with 100,000+ ports and integrate strand, port, and patching data with DCIM tools.
• Define cassette types, trunk counts, cabling hierarchies, fiber utilization, and overbuild requirements across multiple hardware generations.
• Select and validate optics by reach and loss budget, maintain link margin models, and ensure interoperability across vendors and generations.

Requirements

• Experience designing hyperscale or cloud-provider data center networks with 1,000+ racks and 100,000+ fiber strands.
• Expertise in structured cabling systems and MPO/MTP ecosystems, including Corning, Panduit, or CommScope.
• Deep knowledge of IEEE 802.3 and OIF optical standards and 400G/800G transceiver technologies, including DR4, FR4, LR4, and SR8.
• Strong command of fiber loss budgets, dispersion, OTDR, insertion-loss testing, and polarity verification.
• Experience integrating physical network designs with DCIM tools such as NetBox, Remedy, or equivalent custom platforms.
• Ability to develop, interpret, and maintain construction drawings, basis-of-design documents, SOPs, and master specifications.

Nice to have

• RCDD certification.
• Experience with coherent DCI and multi-generation optics roadmapping.
