What you will do
- Create, maintain, and manage finite element models for vehicle-level systems and space station programs.
- Perform structural dynamics analyses supporting structural sizing, strength, mass, and cost optimization.
- Collaborate with design engineers on dynamics and static analysis methods and ensure prediction models reflect design intent.
- Expand analysis capabilities by validating and establishing engineering methods and practices.
- Work with hardware owners and test engineers to plan and execute vibration tests and supporting analyses.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent.
- Proficiency with commercial finite element analysis software, including Femap/Nastran, Abaqus, or Ansys.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics fundamentals used for dynamic response prediction, including single-degree-of-freedom systems, damping, and beam bending.
- Spacecraft or payload experience across the system lifecycle, from concept and design through production, integration, testing, launch, and operations support.
- Demonstrated expertise with Nastran and experience automating FEA software workflows.
- Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export control rules or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
Nice to have
- Understanding of design load cycles and their relationship to analysis and testing.
- Knowledge of spacecraft analysis, launch load environments, and standards such as NASA-STD-5001 and SMC-S-016.
- Experience establishing internal specifications or engineering best practices.
