Salary: $180,500–$285,000 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $224,500–$336,500 annually.

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership for satellite structures, mechanisms, electronics packaging, and complex deployable systems.
  • Lead mechanical subsystem ownership from concept development through qualification, production, launch integration, and on-orbit support.
  • Direct structural, thermal, dynamic, vibration, shock, and environmental analyses for flight hardware.
  • Establish engineering requirements, specifications, standards, procedures, and qualification strategies.
  • Lead hardware development, integration, testing, design reviews, and anomaly or root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with systems, thermal, electrical, manufacturing, reliability, and supply chain teams while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 12+ years of mechanical engineering experience with successful spaceflight hardware development.
  • Technical leadership experience for major spacecraft, satellite, launch vehicle, or advanced aerospace mechanical subsystems.
  • Advanced CAD experience with platforms such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX, and engineering analysis experience with ANSYS, Nastran, Simcenter, or Thermal Desktop.
  • Expertise in structural, thermal, dynamic, environmental, vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, and thermal cycling qualification.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with small satellites, broadband constellations, spacecraft buses, composite structures, lightweight designs, or deployable mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of launch vehicle interfaces, payload integration, spaceport operations, DFM/DFA, PLM systems, and spaceflight standards.
  • Experience directing suppliers, contract manufacturers, root-cause investigations, corrective action boards, and engineering mentorship programs.
