Test Engineer 1 (R&D)

Location: Remote within the contiguous United States. Employees residing within 30 miles of the Houston, Texas or Corvallis, Oregon offices must work in the office at least 4 days per week. National and local travel may be required.

Salary: $63,420–$99,195 annually; target range $70,737–$85,373 annually.

What you will do

• Develop and execute proof-of-concept, component, performance, functional, compliance, reliability, and environmental qualification test programs.
• Plan test specifications, approve supplier procedures, oversee execution, review data, and accept test results.
• Manage small supplier-led projects from evaluation and contracting through design, testing, reporting, data acceptance, and closeout.
• Prepare budgets, schedules, resource requirements, statements of work, requests for quotation, test specifications, and reports.
• Lead hardware design reviews, resolve review comments, analyze validation data, and organize test datasets.

Requirements

• B.S. degree in Materials Science, Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
• Experience developing, executing, or managing testing programs for materials, fluid, mechanical, or electromechanical hardware or devices.
• Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
• Ability to understand and implement quality assurance requirements including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
• Ability to communicate clearly, organize projects, analyze information, and work safely in a changing environment.

Nice to have

• Advanced engineering degree.
• Knowledge of refractory metals and high-temperature applications above 800 °C.
