Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Drilling Engineering) (Petroleum Engineering/Drilling Engineering): Establishing an independent, externally funded drilling engineering research program and teaching drilling engineering courses and laboratories with an accent on drilling simulation, well planning, well integrity, and emerging subsurface-energy applications. Focus on mentoring student research, developing industry and government partnerships, and supporting petroleum engineering education and accreditation.

Location: Laredo, Texas, United States; regular attendance on campus and in the workplace is required.

What you will do

  • Establish an independent, externally funded research program in drilling engineering.
  • Teach drilling engineering courses and associated laboratories, including the use of drilling simulation equipment.
  • Teach additional Petroleum Engineering and engineering courses as needed.
  • Mentor student research and senior design projects.
  • Support student recruitment, accreditation, and School service.
  • Develop collaborations with academic, industry, and government partners.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date; candidates nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in drilling engineering through research, scholarship, professional experience, or a combination thereof.
  • Ability to teach drilling engineering courses and laboratories, mentor student research, and establish an independent research program.
  • Strength in one or more areas including fluids and cementing, well planning and control, managed-pressure or underbalanced drilling, well integrity, drilling optimization, or emerging subsurface-energy applications.
  • Ability to work through regular face-to-face attendance on campus and in the workplace in Laredo, Texas.
