TL;DR
Reservoir Engineer (Carbon Storage): Developing injection strategies, reservoir models, forecasts, and Class V UIC permit applications for bio-oil sequestration with an accent on reservoir behavior, formation integrity, and regulatory readiness. Focus on monitoring injection response, optimizing rates, managing uncertainty, and translating subsurface analysis into permit-ready technical narratives.

Location: Fort Lupton, Colorado, United States; Workplace: On-site

Company

hirify.global develops bio-oil sequestration and carbon removal projects, with locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Louisiana.

What you will do

  • Draft, assemble, and steward Class V UIC permit applications for EPA regional and state programs.
  • Build and maintain injection strategies, reservoir models, analytical tools, and injection forecasts.
  • Monitor reservoir response using pressure data, tracer surveys, and formation logs, identifying anomalies and potential migration risks.
  • Optimize injection rates, protect formation integrity, and evaluate opportunities to improve efficiency or expand injection footprints.
  • Plan subsurface studies, field data collection, formation characterization, and laboratory projects with subsurface, land, operations, and materials science teams.
  • Assess reservoir uncertainty, injectivity decline, pressure limits, mechanical constraints, and end-of-life risks for individual wells and portfolios.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of reservoir or subsurface engineering experience in injection or disposal, EOR, carbon storage, or reservoir management.
  • Degree in petroleum engineering, chemical engineering, geoscience, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience with reservoir modeling, forecasting, pressure-transient behavior, petrophysics, and formation characterization.
  • Working knowledge of UIC permitting, including Class I, Class II, or Class VI applications, area-of-review analysis, or pressure and plume modeling narratives.
  • Strong technical writing and stakeholder communication skills for working with regulators, finance, consultants, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support operations, well development, and permitting.

Nice to have

  • Direct carbon storage or Class V/Class VI injection experience.
  • Experience with pressure-transient, step-rate, tracer, or mechanical integrity tests.
  • Familiarity with pore space, mineral rights, well bonding, and injection project land or regulatory interfaces.
  • Experience with CMG, Petrel, Kappa, reservoir simulation, or subsurface data and analytics workflows.
  • Experience in a lean or early-stage operating environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Stock options and opportunities for internal growth and career development.
  • Employee healthcare premiums fully covered, with medical, dental, vision, and eligible HSA options.
  • Traditional and Roth 401(k) with a 50% match on contributions up to 6%.
  • Paid parental and medical leave, PPE and workwear allowances, and an annual professional development stipend.
  • Fast-paced startup environment with opportunities to contribute across multiple functions and transition into climate work.
