Associate Director, Corporate Strategy (Genomics)

Location: San Diego, California; hybrid with 2–3 in-office days per week. Must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to the corporate offices. Relocation assistance is available and should be completed within 12 months or an agreed timeframe. Travel up to 20% may be required.

Base salary: $170,600–$255,800 per year, plus eligibility for variable cash compensation and equity for eligible roles.

What you will do

• Lead analytically complex corporate strategy workstreams and selected engagements from hypothesis development through recommendation and decision support.
• Build and validate fact bases using market models, customer insights, competitive intelligence, scientific and technology perspectives, internal performance data, and financial analysis.
• Develop strategic alternatives and quantify implications for growth, investment, risk, capabilities, and opportunity cost.
• Integrate input from R&D, Product, Commercial, Finance, Corporate Development, Medical, Operations, and regional partners.
• Create executive-ready presentations and pre-reads, present findings to senior leaders, and contribute to ELT materials.
• Direct analysts, managers, advisors, and cross-functional contributors while managing workplans, quality, coaching, and risk escalation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, engineering, life sciences, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Typically 13–15 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years at a top-tier global strategy consulting firm or comparable organization.
• At least 2 years supporting C-suite executives or equivalent senior decision-makers with analysis, recommendations, and decision-ready materials.
• At least 2 years leading complex strategy workstreams and at least 1 year directing or coaching project contributors.
• Demonstrated practical use of AI-enabled approaches for research, analysis, synthesis, scenario development, or executive communication, with responsible validation and confidential-data handling.
• Strong structured problem solving, quantitative analysis, financial modeling, scenario development, communication, and matrix collaboration skills, plus the ability to understand scientific and technology-driven markets.

Nice to have

• MBA, master’s degree, or another relevant advanced degree.
• Experience in genomics, life sciences, diagnostics, healthcare, or another technology-intensive industry.
• Experience across external advisory and in-house strategy environments or multiple industries, functions, or business models.
• Experience with ELT-level analyses and presentations in a public-company or similarly complex environment.
• Experience evaluating partnerships, acquisitions, or other inorganic strategic options.
