TL;DR
Quality Engineer (Aviation) (Aerospace Quality): Supporting aerospace and aviation programs from development through production and delivery with an accent on AS9100 compliance, quality metrics, audits, and product reliability. Focus on leading root cause investigations, corrective actions, First Article Inspections, supplier quality, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

Location: Must be located within a 50-mile radius of Duluth, Georgia; up to 20% domestic and international travel required. US citizenship required.

Salary: $82,000–$129,500 annually. For specific work locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $102,000–$153,000 annually.

What you will do

  • Provide quality engineering support for aerospace and aviation programs from development through production and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain quality processes compliant with AS9100, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor FPY, yield, defect rates, nonconformances, customer returns, and other quality metrics.
  • Lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, MRB activities, CARs, and RCCA using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone Analysis, and related methods.
  • Conduct process, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits; support First Article Inspection and production validation activities under AS9102.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, suppliers, and Program Management to improve process capability, product reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in quality, operations, and/or engineering in a development and manufacturing environment.
  • 7+ years of supplier auditing and new product introduction experience, plus 3+ years leading teams, programs, or projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, applied sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of AS9100, AS9102B, ISO 9001 QMS, data analysis, engineering drawings, PLM tools such as Agile, and ERP systems such as Oracle.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, FMEA, 8D, 5-Why, failure analysis, and quality improvement tools.
  • US citizenship and residence within 50 miles of Duluth, Georgia are required.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies and space or flight hardware.
  • AS9100D lead auditor training and detailed AS9102 First Article Verification experience.
  • Knowledge of IPC-610, IPC-620S, J-STD-001S, and MIL-STD-883.
