TL;DR
Electrical Engineering Internship (Winter Spring 2027) (Aerospace): Designing, building, and debugging aerospace electrical hardware from concept through functional prototype with an accent on PCB design, component selection, system integration, and bench testing. Focus on root-cause troubleshooting, qualification testing, manufacturability, and delivering a scoped project for flight hardware.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California; full-time, in-person, 10-week internship starting in January 2027. Occasional travel to vendors or other hirify.global sites may be required.

Hourly pay: $30–$50 USD

Company

hirify.global develops and manufactures critical components and subsystems for aerospace hardware, military vehicles, and core infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Design electronics from concept through functional prototype, including schematic capture, hardware selection, PCB design, and system integration.
  • Build, test, and iterate electrical hardware using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, debuggers, and current probes.
  • Debug hardware failures to root cause and incorporate fixes into the design.
  • Support electrical analysis, PCBA layout, component de-rating, tolerance analysis, and availability reviews.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, build, and test engineers on functional, environmental, and EMI test plans.
  • Present the completed project and results to the engineering team at the end of the internship.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's, master's, or PhD program in electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, or a related field.
  • Returning to school in Fall 2027, or graduating in Spring 2027 and interested in a full-time role; continued academic study for at least one quarter or semester after the internship is required.
  • Ability to commit to a full-time, in-person 10-week internship in El Segundo, California, starting in January 2027.
  • Completed coursework in circuits, electronics, or signals, with working knowledge of power, filtering, and logic fundamentals.
  • Hands-on electrical design experience through coursework, student projects, personal projects, or a prior internship.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR, including U.S. citizenship, U.S. permanent residence, or protected-person status.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Altium Designer or equivalent electronic design automation tools.
  • Experience with circuit simulation, component selection, and de-rating.
  • Experience building electronics for rocketry, Formula SAE, CubeSat, robotics, or similar physical hardware projects.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, or other qualification and certification frameworks.
  • Curiosity, initiative, practical troubleshooting ability, and comfort working across diverse components and manufacturing processes.

Culture & Benefits

  • Direct mentorship from an experienced engineer.
  • Hands-on ownership of a scoped electrical design project.
  • Direct access to build and test engineers and real hardware on the bench.
  • Work on aerospace hardware supporting new developments, active deployments, and customer-operated systems.
