TL;DR
Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (Mechanical Design/Testing): Supporting mechanical design, development, analysis, testing, and documentation for space and defense technology projects with an accent on CAD, engineering requirements, technical documentation, and hardware development. Focus on evaluating design concepts, developing test fixtures and tooling, analyzing engineering data, and collaborating with manufacturing and cross-functional teams.
Location: San Diego, Folsom, Reno, Long Beach, or Pittsburgh, United States; in-person orientation, program kickoff, and final presentation require travel.
Hourly pay: $23.50–$30.00 USD, depending on academic year, major, line of business, and geography.

What you will do
- Support mechanical design, development, analysis, testing, and documentation for assigned engineering projects.
- Develop and maintain mechanical models, drawings, specifications, requirements, and interface documentation.
- Participate in trade studies and evaluate design concepts to support engineering decisions.
- Support test approaches, fixtures, tooling, prototyping, and other engineering hardware or processes.
- Collect, analyze, and present engineering data during testing and evaluation activities.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams while completing assigned deliverables.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principles and design methodology.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively and learn new engineering tools, processes, and methodologies.
- Familiarity with mechanical design or CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
Nice to have
- Previous internship, coursework, academic project, or other relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience with CAD, mechanical design, engineering analysis, prototyping, testing, or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, technical documentation, or requirements.
- Hands-on laboratory, fabrication, testing, or other engineering experience.
