Director, Principal Software Engineer - Strategic Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Groton, Connecticut, United States, with 25% required travel. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. by any employer.

Annual base salary: $176,600–$294,300, plus a 20% bonus target and eligibility for a share-based long-term incentive program.

What you will do

• Lead a forward-deployed pod of engineers and product owners delivering applications for ELT and ELT-1 initiatives.
• Set technical direction, architecture, engineering delivery practices, and quality standards for high-stakes initiatives.
• Design AI-augmented engineering workflows, evaluate AI tools, and establish rigorous verification practices for AI-generated code.
• Define reliability standards, SLOs, and SLIs; build resilient systems and lead reliability improvements.
• Develop technical leaders, shape engineering talent strategy, and build high-performing teams.
• Represent engineering to executives, coordinate cross-functional work, and communicate complex technical solutions clearly.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 8 years of experience; or a master's degree with at least 7 years; or a PhD with at least 5 years.
• Demonstrated experience personally creating applications actively used by senior leadership, including ELT and ELT-1 audiences.
• Ability to present complex technical solutions to executive audiences.
• Broad leadership experience, including influencing peers, coaching others, and guiding colleagues toward measurable business outcomes.
• Permanent U.S. work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
