What you will do

• Set the AI and machine learning strategy and roadmap across research, clinical, medical, operations, and commercial priorities.
• Lead advanced machine learning, generative AI, foundation-model, and agentic AI programs from opportunity framing through production adoption.
• Establish scalable production ML architecture, reusable engineering patterns, model delivery standards, and scientific data and workflow integrations.
• Guide data and MLOps investments covering lineage, experimentation, evaluation, monitoring, model registries, release governance, and lifecycle operations.
• Implement responsible AI governance that addresses validation, privacy, security, regulatory expectations, and operational risk.
• Recruit and develop ML engineering talent, build strategic partnerships, influence executive decisions, and measure portfolio value through defined KPIs.

Requirements

• United States-based remote work is specified for the role.
• Doctorate degree plus 4 years of relevant director-level experience, master's degree plus 8 years, or bachelor's degree plus 10 years; at least 4 years of people or leadership experience is also required.
• Expertise in AI/ML engineering, technical and modeling strategy, production system design, scalable APIs and pipelines, cloud platforms, model serving, evaluation, and observability.
• Experience directing data and MLOps capabilities, including lineage, reproducibility, validation, monitoring, drift detection, CI/CD, incident response, auditability, and model retirement.
• Experience with Python and modern ML/deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX, plus cloud and data platforms for deploying AI/ML at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage strategic stakeholders, make architecture decisions, and communicate complex ML strategy to senior audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience designing and governing agentic AI architectures with tool use, orchestration, planning, memory, guardrails, human oversight, and production monitoring.
• Scientific background in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biophysics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related life-science discipline.
• Experience with biological and molecular AI applications, including protein structure prediction, protein language models, biological foundation models, or molecular design.
• Experience applying AI/ML in biopharma, healthcare, or another regulated industry, and with Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, or comparable platforms.
