Principal Engineer, AI/Software Support, Pooled Screening Core, Cell & Genetic Medicines

Location: Remote within the United States, with approximately 10–15% travel to company sites in Spring House, Pennsylvania; La Jolla, California; and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Base pay: $117,000–$201,250 per year.

What you will do

• Serve as the senior software and AI technical expert for pooled and arrayed high-throughput screening in Cell & Genetic Medicines.
• Design and implement scalable architecture connecting laboratory automation, analytical instruments, enterprise systems, scientific data, and user workflows.
• Build production-quality applications, APIs, data pipelines, computational tools, and visualization solutions for cell therapy discovery.
• Develop and deploy machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic workflow capabilities where they provide scientific or operational value.
• Organize screening data, construct information, assay metadata, and analytical outputs to support experimental planning, hit identification, candidate ranking, and knowledge capture.
• Establish engineering practices for architecture, testing, documentation, deployment, observability, security, and lifecycle management while mentoring scientists and engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, computational biology, bioinformatics, engineering, or a related technical field, with significant relevant industry experience.
• Extensive experience designing and delivering complex software systems in scientific, engineering, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or similarly data-intensive environments.
• Experience integrating AI/ML or generative AI models into production-quality software systems.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services, including compute instances and Amazon S3 for secure data storage, access, and transfer.
• Strong systems thinking, scientific workflow analysis, communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work remotely within the United States and travel approximately 10–15% annually.

Nice to have

• Experience in drug discovery, cell therapy, functional genomics, high-throughput screening, or laboratory automation.
• Experience integrating robotic systems, analytical instruments, and automated data-generation platforms.
• Knowledge of high-dimensional biological datasets, FAIR data principles, scientific metadata standards, data governance, or regulated technology environments.
• Experience developing scientific applications, visualization tools, knowledge systems, workflow orchestration, or AI agents.
• Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks, especially Benchling, and laboratory-facing organizations.
