TL;DR
Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Supporting aircraft, avionics, and mission equipment testing, modification, repair, and sustainability with an accent on structural performance, systems requirements, and contract engineering. Focus on designing test flight profiles, evaluating aircraft modifications and proposals, interpreting engineering documentation, and supporting complex aerospace systems under regulatory and operational requirements.

Location: Hybrid in Riverside, California, United States; travel is required.

What you will do

  • Support structural and avionics proof tests, including test flight performance envelopes, profiles, and special maneuvers.
  • Assess and define modifications needed to upgrade aircraft, avionics systems, and specialized mission equipment.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for aircraft modifications and provide technical engineering support for repair, modification, and sustainment activities.
  • Prepare technical specifications and Statements of Work, support contract activities, monitor contractor performance, and evaluate proposals.
  • Support the development and adjudication of acquisition and systems requirements documentation.
  • Perform required aircraft and systems inspections using FAA Inspection Authorization and support aircraft and mission systems test flights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, systems, electrical, industrial, materials engineering, or a closely related discipline; applicable engineering experience may substitute for the degree.
  • At least four years of experience preparing aircraft and systems requirements, evaluating and administering aircraft contracts, and supporting complex engineering projects.
  • Experience with aircraft or marine systems, structural and external loads testing and analysis, avionics or navigation and communication systems, and sensor systems such as radar or electro-optical/infrared sensors.
  • Ability to perform aerospace, electrical, and mechanical designs and layouts, interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation, and work with regulatory and certification processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Strong technical writing skills and positive adjudication from a CBP Background Investigation are required.
