Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace) (Helicopter Drive Systems): Supporting engineering analysis, testing, inspections, and technical documentation for helicopter drive systems with an accent on test data evaluation, design documentation, and mechanical/electrical assembly investigations. Focus on interpreting drawings and schematics, conducting root cause analysis, preparing technical reports, and supporting propulsion-system engineering projects.

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States. The role requires up to 15% travel.

What you will do

  • Provide entry-level analytical and technical support for engineering projects, systems, and subsystems.
  • Review test plans, test reports, technical data, design documentation, engineering change proposals, and technical drawings.
  • Participate in test witnessing, data collection, post-test evaluations, and hardware inspections.
  • Support root cause analysis, failure investigations, defect reporting, and reviews of mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Document engineering processes, technical analyses, manuals, maintenance procedures, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct information searches, correlate technical data, and support preliminary trade studies and project reviews.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Department of War security clearance.
  • Must be a junior or higher currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, system design concepts, and development methods.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials, perform routine technical calculations, and summarize findings in reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with foundational technical writing ability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with MATLAB, CAD, ANSYS, SolidWorks, or other engineering modeling, analysis, and data visualization software.
  • Experience with detailed technical information searches, data interpretation, and technical documentation.
  • Strong interest in analytics.
