Staff Software Infrastructure Engineer (AI)

Location: Santa Clara, United States; hybrid

Salary: $155K–$235K annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Design and build production-grade automation to diagnose and resolve CI/CD pipeline failures, including regressions, flaky hardware, and infrastructure issues.
• Develop methods to identify which merges caused failures in long-running test suites.
• Combine AI techniques with deterministic automation to improve pipeline reliability.
• Architect scalable compute and storage for build and test workloads across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Own release engineering practices, including versioning, component release trains, and compatibility matrices.
• Partner with software development and Quality Engineering teams to reduce developer toil and drive adoption of tooling and best practices.

Requirements

• Track record of reducing toil or time-to-signal through automation in CI, release, or developer-tooling environments.
• Release engineering experience with versioning systems, independent component releases, and compatibility matrices.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production-grade automation.
• Architectural judgment when balancing AI with deterministic software and compute availability with data locality.
• Experience driving tooling and best-practice adoption across teams without direct reporting relationships.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems, containerized workloads, virtual machines, Kubernetes, distributed-system observability, or host-level systems investigation.

Nice to have

• Experience with GitLab CI and merge-train workflows at scale.
• Experience building LLM-based agents or developer-workflow tools for CI triage or code review.
• Experience with semantic versioning or independently versioned multi-component release systems.
