Director of Forensics (Communication)

Location: Canyon, Texas, United States. The role is campus-based and includes travel with the forensics team. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and throughout employment; visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Direct and coach the forensics team, including planning competitions, managing budgets and expenses, and coordinating travel.
• Teach undergraduate communication courses such as public speaking, interpersonal communication, argumentation and debate, small group communication, and organizational communication.
• Develop and teach traditional, hybrid, and web-based courses.
• Participate in professional associations, scholarly conferences, and discipline-specific research activities.
• Support the department, college, and university through professional service and community outreach.
• Advise or serve on committees for graduate students and support thesis and non-thesis completion where qualified.

Requirements

• Master of Arts in Communication, a related master's degree, or a Juris Doctorate.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in debate, oratory, oral interpretation, and basic speech courses.
• Experience hosting speech and debate events and managing and coaching a competitive team.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal communication, initiative, and student-centered teaching skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; H-1B and other work authorization visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in Communication or a related field; a Ph.D. is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.
• Experience advising and mentoring students.
• Experience managing UIL academic events.
• Ability to teach graduate-level courses.
