Settlement Department Team Lead

What you will do

• Lead and develop a large team of settlement negotiators and support staff, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and corrective action.
• Own department metrics covering settlement volume, settlement value, policy-limits capture, client recovery, stage duration, aged inventory, demand turnaround, and productivity.
• Oversee case valuation, demand packages, settlement authority requests, counteroffers, complex injury claims, bad-faith issues, policy limits, UM/UIM exposure, and coverage concerns.
• Maintain and improve settlement procedures, checklists, templates, reporting, and case-stage definitions.
• Coordinate with medical management, intake, case management, litigation, and firm leadership to improve handoffs and file resolution.
• Protect client relationships by setting communication standards, resolving escalated concerns, and ensuring accurate, timely, client-approved disbursements.

Requirements

• Three to five years of progressive personal injury experience, including substantial pre-suit settlement and negotiation work.
• At least three years of direct management experience leading a settlements, pre-litigation, or case management team.
• Experience setting performance standards, managing through metrics, coaching underperformers, and making performance decisions.
• Strong command of medical specials, treatment trajectory, procedure-level valuation, comparative fault, coverage layers, and venue analysis.
• Fluency in English and Spanish, written and spoken, is essential.
• Working knowledge of Florida personal injury practice, including PIP, the statutory pre-suit framework, damages, and fee rules; comfort with case management systems, reports, and spreadsheets.
