Mechanical Engineering Intern (Maritime Robotics)

Location: San Diego, CA; full-time, in-office internship from approximately early January through May 2027

Pay: $30/hour

hirify.global develops autonomous unmanned surface vessels that carry sensors for persistent monitoring and data acquisition in defense, scientific, and commercial maritime applications.

What you will do

• Design mechanical parts and simple assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Maintain CAD models, drawings, basic bills of materials, configuration records, and design files.
• Assist with fixtures, tooling, and jigs for assembly and testing.
• Support part sourcing, supplier communication, mechanical assembly, and component inspection.
• Participate in testing new and existing vehicle components.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers on electro-mechanical systems.

Requirements

• Completed 2–3 years of coursework toward a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with SolidWorks for part and assembly design.
• Ability to read and create basic mechanical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to iterate based on feedback.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving, hands-on environment.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export control laws and be independently authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Internship, project, club, or competition experience such as Formula SAE or robotics.
• Experience with 3D printing, CNC, waterjet cutting, or shop tools.
• Interest in robotics, autonomous systems, or maritime environments.
• Basic familiarity with GD&T.
• Exposure to electrical or software systems in a mechanical context.
